Mangaluru: Revenue officials of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) on Friday closed down 10 shops at the renovated Alake market for defaulting on payment of rent. The shops owe a total of Rs 28 lakh to the MCC. The officials had issued several notices to the shopkeepers, but they failed to pay the rent.
The shops were sealed after the MCC officials broke open the locks. The shopkeepers have now come forward to pay the rent.
The MCC has warned that it will take further action against the shopkeepers if they fail to pay the rent in full.
