Mangaluru: District in-charge Minister, Dinesh Gundu Rao, convened a meeting on Friday night at the command control room of the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to discuss and address the challenges posed by the ongoing monsoon season in the district. The meeting was attended by officials from the district administration, where precautionary measures and disaster management strategies were discussed.
Minister Gundu Rao emphasized the need for proactive measures to tackle potential calamities in low-lying areas, as well as along the banks of ponds and rivers during the monsoon season. He stressed the importance of providing fishermen with clear instructions to avoid venturing into the sea during adverse weather conditions. The Minister held officials directly responsible for any shortcomings in their duties and warned of necessary actions against those found negligent.
Furthermore, Minister Gundu Rao directed the appointment of nodal officers to oversee disaster-prone areas during the monsoon. He emphasized the importance of maintaining open telephone lines for emergency services at all times. In light of the situation, the Minister also called for holidays to be declared for schools and colleges.
During the meeting, the Minister discussed the recent incident of a landslide in Nandavara and expressed his concern about the potential loss of life. He instructed officials to promptly relocate people residing in landslide-prone areas to safer places, such as Kalaji Kendras or the houses of their relatives.
To prevent any lapses in natural calamity management, Minister Gundu Rao specifically directed Public Works Department (PWD) officials to inspect bridges for any signs of cracks. He urged officials at the taluk level to remain at their respective headquarters and closely monitor the situation.
Minister Dinesh Gundu also highlighted the importance of proactive measures and prompt action to manage the challenges brought on by the monsoon season in Mangaluru. The Minister's warnings and directives serve as a reminder of the officials' responsibility to ensure public safety and effective disaster management in the district.
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, City Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar Jain, MCC Commissioner Anand C L, Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr. Anand K, and SP C B Ryshyanth, among other officials and elected representatives were present.
