Mangaluru: A victim has fallen prey to a scam, losing a significant sum of Rs 3.4 lakh, all because they responded to a message regarding an online tutoring job.
As per the police report, the victim, who worked as a private tutor, received an email offering an exciting job opportunity with an educational technology company. The victim was thrilled to be selected as a chemistry tutor but was then asked to make payments for registration and other related fees. Between July 11 and July 21, the victim made a series of online transactions, totaling Rs 3.4 lakh.
The individuals behind the alleged fraud ceased responding to the victim's calls after the money had been transferred. The person who initially contacted the complainant had promised an online interview and assured a refund within 45-90 days if the victim didn't secure the job.
However, after waiting for 90 days without any job offer or refund, the complainant decided to take action and registered a formal complaint at the CEN police station.
