New Delhi: The second phase of Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in Jharkhand, slated to begin on Wednesday, has been canceled as the senior Congress leader rushed to Delhi to join a farmers' agitation in the national capital, according to a party official.
Party sources stated that the cancellation was due to Gandhi's urgent participation in the farmers' protest in Delhi, leading to the rescheduling of his planned interaction with MGNREGA workers in Ranka, Garhwa district. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and other party members will now conduct the scheduled event.
Originally, Rahul Gandhi was set to re-enter Jharkhand through Garhwa district from Chhattisgarh for the second phase of his yatra in the state on Wednesday. However, late Tuesday night, all programs under Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra were called off in Jharkhand, as confirmed by Congress spokesperson Sonal Shanti.
AICC general secretary Jairam Ramesh, along with other senior Congress leaders, will now participate in the Ranka event, which Gandhi was initially scheduled to attend. Jharkhand Congress president Rajesh Thakur mentioned that Gandhi had to depart for Delhi for a "special purpose."
The first leg of Gandhi's yatra in Jharkhand occurred in early February, entering the state from West Bengal on February 2 and exiting to Odisha on February 6. Originally, Gandhi was to stay in Jharkhand for two days in the second leg before proceeding to Bihar on February 15.
The 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra', which began in Manipur on January 14, is set to cover 6,713 km across 15 states, passing through 110 districts before concluding in Mumbai on March 20.
Meanwhile, farmers from Punjab plan to march to Delhi to advocate for various demands, including a law on minimum support prices for crops and loan waivers.
