Recruitment of 154 new civic workers in Udupi district

Udupi: Udupi Deputy Commissioner Dr. K. Vidyakumari, announced the recruitment of 154 civic workers in Udupi district, with 10 more undergoing document verification for future appointments.

Emphasizing the prohibition of manual scavenging, she warned of strict legal actions, citing penalties under Section 8 of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013.

Dr. Vidyakumari directed urban bodies to ensure toilet cleaning using suction machines, with mandatory safety equipment for workers. She stressed regular health check-ups and quality meals for civic workers. The Deputy Commissioner urged officials to raise awareness about government schemes for manual scavenger rehabilitation.

Udupi District SP Dr. Arun K, Social Welfare Officer Anita, Municipal Commissioner Rayappa and other officials were present.
