Republic Day celebrated in Udupi with patriotic fervour

Udupi: District Incharge Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar announced the government's commitment to accelerating industrial development in Udupi district for increased local employment at the 75th Republic Day event at Mahatma Gandhi ground in Ajjarkad, Udupi.

She highlighted the approval for an industrial area in the district, spanning 114 acres in Kerebettu, Shivapura, and 51 acres in Nitte.

Plans for a preliminary notification on 942 acres in Yellur and Santhoor were revealed after a spot inspection. Additionally, Rs 30 crore was allocated for UGD (Underground Drainage) and treatment plants in Udupi CMC (City Municipal Council). Hebbalkar stressed the need for a harmonious atmosphere, urging the transcendence of narrow perspectives on caste and language.

The minister underscored the government's inclusive approach, citing benefits under schemes like Shakti and Gruha Jyoti Yojana. She addressed challenges posed by drought in Udupi, Hebri, Brahmavara, and Karkala taluks, with an estimated crop loss of Rs 11.85 crore in 13,937 hectares.

To mitigate the impact, Rs 2.64 crore in compensation was disbursed, benefiting 19,071 farmers. Notable dignitaries, including Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna, DC K. Vidya Kumari, and SP Dr. K. Arun, and many others were present.
