Sirsi to get traffic police station

Sirsi(DHNS): A traffic police station has been sanctioned for Sirsi with an aim to control the traffic chaos and ensure smooth movement of traffic.

Under Secretary to the Government K N Vanaja issued an order in this regard recently.

In 2021, as many as 71 accident cases were recorded in Sirsi Circle. 15 people lost their lives and 93 people were injured in these accidents. Between 2015 and 2022, a total of 3,184 accidents have been recorded. This year, 36 accident cases have been registered till now. Five people died and 42 people were injured in these accidents. Traffic problem is common near tourist/pilgrims spots and markets.

Police from other stations in the district were deployed to manage the traffic during the Marikamba Devi fair. Therefore, there was a need for a traffic police station for Sirsi.

The new traffic police station in Sirsi will have 42 posts of various ranks/grades including one PSI, two ASIs, eight head constables, and 31 staff members.
