Cyber attack on SahilOnline: Urdu and Kannada news portals temporarily shut down; Restoration efforts underway

Bhatkal: The Urdu and Kannada news portals of SahilOnline have been temporarily shut down following a cyber attack. However, swift action by SahilOnline’s technical team has secured the site from unauthorized access, and efforts are currently underway to restore all services. There are concerns that a significant amount of content may have been lost during the attack, and recovery efforts are ongoing.

Previously, all three SahilOnline news portals—Urdu, Kannada, and English—operated on a shared server. Following an earlier cyber attack, which briefly shut down all three websites, the English news portal was shifted to a separate server, ensuring its safety during this latest incident. Unfortunately, since the Urdu and Kannada portals remain on the same server, both have been affected and are currently offline.

SahilOnline's Technical Chief, Emadullah Gawai, and technical expert, Saeed Kola, along with the entire team, are working tirelessly to restore the Urdu and Kannada portals. It is hoped that both will be operational again very soon.

It is worth noting that the last news update on the Urdu portal was published at 2:42 PM on Saturday. However, while attempting to post the next news item at 2:49 PM, the portals went down due to the cyber attack. During the first hour of the incident, clicking on any news link in Urdu and Kannada redirected users to an obscene website. Immediate action by the technical team blocked access to the malicious website, and restoration efforts began promptly thereafter.

To prevent such incidents in the future, SahilOnline is considering implementing more stringent cybersecurity measures, including the possibility of separating the servers for the Urdu and Kannada portals. In the meantime, readers can continue to access updates via SahilOnline's English news portal.
