Karwar: Following discussions on the challenges faced by Endosulfan victims and the exploration of potential solutions, Deputy Commissioner Gangubai Mankar has directed the District Health Officer to draft a proposal for establishing a dedicated school for Endosulfan victims in Uttara Kannada district, ensuring they have access to education.
This directive was issued during a meeting at her office in Karwar on Thursday, where Mankar emphasized the need for more effective physiotherapy treatments and medications for Endosulfan victims. Currently, mobile health units are providing doorstep medical care to victims in Ankola, Kumta, Honnavar, Bhatkal, Sirsi, and Siddapur taluks.
Mankar stressed the importance of obtaining necessary approvals from the health department head office and other relevant government departments for the construction of a well-equipped permanent rehabilitation center for Endosulfan victims in Manki. The proposed center is estimated to cost Rs 13 crore.
District Health Officer Neeraj B V reported that there are currently 1,860 Endosulfan victims in the district, and timely ration and essential medicines are being supplied to them.
