Karwar: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has laid the foundation stone for a new station at Mirjan on the Konkan railway route to provide convenience to passengers. The proposed New Mirjan station is situated between Gokarna and Kumta stations of the Konkan Railway and is adjacent to the NH 66.

The new station  would be constructed at a total cost of Rs 12.45 crore and would reduce the distance between stations from present 19.091km to 11.539 km from Gokarna and 7.552km from Kumta.

The proposed station would also provide passengers with amenities like platforms, waiting hall, current ticket booking counter and covered platform shelter.

The new station would also improve operations throughout Konkan Railway since Kumta-Gokarna is the longest block section of 19km on Konkan Railway.
