Karwar: Deputy Commissioner SS Nakul said that we should respect the police department officials as they serve the society keeping aside their personal life and comfort.

Speaking after inaugurating a programme to pay respect to the fallen officials at the Police Martyrs Day programme at District Police Parade Ground in Karwar on Friday, he said that every citizen of the country should pay homage to those who have sacrificed their lives to protect the countrymen and motherland.

The Police Martyrs Day is being observed in memory of 10 police officers who laid down their lives fighting with Chinese Soldiers in 1957. He said that 473 policemen from different states, union territories and other units have lost their lives while discharging their duty during the year 2015-16.

He lamented that assault against police officials have also increased in district. He also sought co-operation from both common men and district administration officials toward the well being of police officials.
