SIO Bhatkal hosts inter-college history fair to promote historical research among students

Bhatkal: The Bhatkal unit of the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) organised an inter-college history fair titled “Imprints of the Past” at Shams School.

The fair brought together 12 teams of students from various pre-university and degree colleges in Bhatkal. Each three-member team presented historical models prepared through research and study.

The inaugural session was presided over by Maulana Syed Zubair SM, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Bhatkal, who formally inaugurated the fair. It was attended by students and representatives of educational and social organisations. SIO Bhatkal Unit President Mohammed Zayan spoke about the importance of studying history and the organisation’s objectives and later presided over the final session. SIO of India’s former secretary Nihal Kidiyoor, the chief guest, urged students to develop a deeper understanding of their past and history.

Anjuman Hami-e-Muslimeen Bhatkal General Secretary Ishaq Shabandari and Majlis-e-Islah wa Tanzeem Bhatkal General Secretary Azizur Rahman Ruknuddin Nadvi congratulated the organisers and participants and called for more such educational initiatives and follow-up activities.

A large number of students, educationists and members of various organisations visited the exhibition.

At the concluding session, senior journalist and former Tanzeem General Secretary Dr Haneef Shabab and historian Prof. M.S. Gururaj appreciated the efforts of the participants and encouraged students to combine the study of history with research and analytical skills.

Two teams from Shams Pre-University College (Boys) won the first and second prizes. The first-prize-winning History Hawks team comprised Usman Ghani Hallare, Asrar Ahmed Khateebi and Rizwan Ekkeri, while the second-prize-winning Ibn Sina team comprised Mohammed Azhan, Mohammed Arfath and Abdul Badee.

The team from Anjuman PU College for Women, Bhatkal, comprising Ayshath Shahama Mehek, Ruchita Madhukar Naik and Mariya Quibtiya, secured the third prize.

Two complimentary prizes were also awarded to teams from Anjuman Degree College for Women and Shams Pre-University College (Boys).

The organisers said the initiative was aimed at encouraging students to study history, undertake research and develop greater awareness of their historical heritage.

SIO Campus Secretary Syed Sabiq Barmawar, SIO Media Secretary Mashaikh Talish, and SIO members Sumama Khan and Githreef Rida Manvi, among others, were also present.
