Bhatkal: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka, has provided a major relief to overseas electors in connection with the disposal of notices issued under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026, allowing any adult family member to appear before the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) on their behalf and submit the required documents or information.
The facility has also been extended to senior citizens, persons with disabilities and sick electors, who may face difficulties in appearing before election officials in person.
According to a memorandum issued on September 11, 2026, the Chief Electoral Officer's office has directed all District Election Officers, Deputy Commissioners, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and concerned election officials of Bengaluru City Corporation to issue necessary instructions to the EROs and AEROs under their jurisdiction in this regard.
The memorandum specifies that an adult family member of a Senior Citizen, Person with Disability (PwD), sick elector or Overseas Elector may appear in person before the ERO/AERO on behalf of the elector and submit the required documents or information for disposal of the SIR notice issued to the concerned voter.
The move is aimed at facilitating the disposal of notices without requiring such electors to personally visit the offices of the election authorities.
The EROs and AEROs have also been directed to explain the procedure followed for the issuance and disposal of notices during the weekly meetings held with political parties at their respective levels.
The memorandum was issued by S. Yogeshwara, Joint Chief Electoral Officer, DPAR (Elections). It also refers to a letter issued by the Election Commission of India on May 14, 2026.
The memorandum has been communicated to the EROs and AEROs of all 224 Assembly constituencies in Karnataka.
