Muscat: Muscat Municipality has announced that its slaughterhouses are getting ready to cater to the huge demand during Eid al Adha. The municipality is also planning to open a central slaughterhouse in Misfaa in Bausher before the end of the year.

The municipality said that it had to shut down the central slaughterhouse in Bausher no later than September 1 based on the agreement signed with the developer of a project. The municipality had tried to postpone the shutdown of the slaughterhouse until after Eid al Adha, but the investor refused, it said.

Meanwhile, the civic body has taken steps to equip the temporary slaughterhouse in Ma’abela. It has twice the capacity of the slaughterhouse in Bausher. It has already started operations and is providing services like slaughtering, skinning and chopping meat for retailers. It will remain open for the public during Eid al Adha.

The municipality wants to make sure that slaughterhouses will provide best services during Eid al Adha. It is working hard to upgrade the slaughterhouse in Amerat before Eid al Adha. The slaughterhouse is expected to open unofficially and start receiving cattle from Saturday.

The municipality confirmed that it will oversee slaughterhouses as always and if it finds facilities struggling to provide services, it will be compelled to open temporary ones after Eid al Adha until the establishment of a new central slaughterhouse. The municipality confirmed that the new central slaughterhouse will come up in Misfaa in Bausher and it will be designed as per modern standards.
