Mangaluru: The issue of Goa government banning fish from neighbouring States, including Karnataka, over formalin scare will be discussed at the Cabinet meeting on Monday, according to Minister for Urban Development and Housing U.T. Khader.

Mr. Khader, who is in-charge of Dakshina Kannada, told presspersons on Saturday that he has discussed the matter with Fisheries Minister Venkatarao Nadagouda who would take it up with his counterpart in Goa.

Mr. Khader said that the Goa government should re-consider its ban and assess properly whether the scare is true or not. No injustice should be done to the fishermen of Karnataka. The Minister said that he felt that it was not the valid reason for banning fish from Karnataka.

Mr. Khader said that State government has prepared the draft of a policy for erecting mobile towers in the State. Now there are no proper guidelines for it. Hence mobile towers have come up near educational institutes, hospitals, residential areas and thickly populated areas. The draft, prepared by a committee, is yet to be finalised, he said.

The Miniser said officials should release the vehicles seized on charges of extracting sand illegally as a “one-time measure”. Those vehicles are gathering rust at different places. Their owners, especially youth, might have done it without proper knowledge of law. They have invested a lot on the vehicles. If the vehicles y get damaged due to rust, the owners would suffer a huge loss, he said. He has requested Sasikanth Senthil S., Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, to think over it.
