They belongs to coastal towns Bhatkal, Honnavar and Kumta.

Six persons among them who were sent to jail were released about a month ago and have been kept under boat arrest along with other 12 men. For almost more than three-and-half month they have been kept under boat arrest and are hoping Indian government will come for their help. However, no developments in the case from Indian authority was observed since then.

In a fresh video, it can be seen that all the 18 fishermen are staying in two boats anchored at Kish island. One among them, Usman Bombaikar says that they are hoping that Indian government will soon come for their rescue. Minister Sushma Swaraj has taken initiatives to rescue many Indians who were stranded abroad. Likewise, she should help us get rescued from Iran. Various NGOs including Majlise Islah Wa Tanzeem of Bhatkal and Karnataka forum are putting efforts to get us released.

The arrested fishermen include 9 from Bhatkal, 7 from Kumta, and 1 from Honnavar and Shirur each.
