Karwar: The meeting between fishermen leaders and Goa Minister of Fisheries held on Thursday to discuss the issue of the prohibition imposed on fish-laden lorries from Karnataka has not fructified.
The fishermen leaders from Karwar spoke to Fisheries Minister of Goa Vishwajit Rane in Panaji in the morning and also discussed the matter with other higher officials in the evening. However, the Goa government showed no flexibility in diluting the conditions posed by them.
Giving details of the meeting, fishermen leader Ganapathi Mangre said that the Goa government wanted fish to be transported in insulated trucks to Goa which are quite unaffordable. But they must understand that Majali (near Karwar) was quite close to Goa. In addition to this, fisher sellers are required to produce their photo, Aadhar card and Identity card mandatorily. They will be allowed to sell fish only after they are registered. But it was difficult to accept those conditions.
He said that the fish sellers going to Goa are not fixed. Whoever catches fish in the sea goes to Goa and sells them. So, it was not possible to accept the conditions posed by the Goa government. He said that they will discuss the matter with the officers of the fisheries department and the deputy commissioner.
