Bhatkal: As expected, Tanzeem candidates Muhammed Sadiq Matta and Ashfaque KM were elected unopposed as president and vice president respectively for Bhatkal Town Muncipal Council (TMC) on Friday.
The new chief of TMC, Sadique Matta is a member of district waqf board, President of Taluka Congress Minority Department, convenor, social department of Bhatkal Muslim Youth Federation and president of Shaheen Sports Centre and has served the town at the political and social level with utmost enthusiasm. He won the councilor election for three consecutive terms with Maqdoom colony ward No. 3.
The new Vice president K M Ashfaque also is a senior councilor elected from different wards of old Bhatkal areas.
Few of the challenges for the newly elected president and Vice President are city's garbage disposal, bad pipes and several other issues including pumping station of Ghausia Street. The new duo has emerged to be a ray of hope for the localities dwelling there and are expected to be able to solve those problems.
The process of nomination began on Friday morning at 11 am, while at 3 pm Election Commissioner and the Tehsildar V N Baadkar announced the nomination of two. Municipal Chief Officer Ramesh was also present on the occasion. General Secretary of Tanzeem Muhiddin Altaf kharuri, Block Congress President Vitthal Naik, JDS leader Inayatullah Shabandari, Rabita society member Abdul Sami Kola and many other leaders, councillors and panchayat members were present who congratulated them on their victory.
