Bhatkal: The New English Pre-University College has won the overall championship in both the boys’ and girls’ categories at the Bhatkal taluk-level PU sports meet for the 2026-27 academic year, securing the overall title for the fifth consecutive year.
According to the college principal, Dr. Veerendra V. Shanbhag, the meet was held at Siddhartha Pre-University College in Bhatkal. The New English PU College students put up strong performances across athletics, swimming, field events and team sports.
The college won first place in several boys’ team events, including ball badminton, kho-kho, kabaddi, volleyball, shuttle badminton and throwball. In the girls’ section, the college also secured first place in kho-kho, throwball, kabaddi, shuttle badminton and volleyball.
Among the individual performers, Akshaya N. Kelsi in the boys’ section and Meghana M. Naik in the girls’ section were adjudged individual champions after securing multiple first-place finishes in athletics and related events.
Students also excelled in yoga, karate, taekwondo and chess. Several students who secured top positions in karate have qualified for the district-level competitions.
Bhatkal Education Trust president Surendra Shanbhag, principal Dr. Veerendra V. Shanbhag, physical education director Krishnappa Naik, and the teaching and non-teaching staff congratulated the students on their performance.
