Dubai: Thumbay Group has announced the launch of Thumbay Medicity Dubai, a major integrated academic healthcare destination located in Al Qusais, marking one of the Group’s most significant milestones in the region. Designed as a “city within a city,” the project brings together education, patient care, research, innovation, and healthcare support services under one comprehensive medical ecosystem.
Thumbay Medicity Dubai is planned to accommodate up to 3,000 students, generate over 1,000 employment opportunities, and cater to a floating population of around 6,000. The medical city integrates education, healthcare, research, alternative medicine, laboratory services, home care, wellness systems, and innovation within a single campus.
The campus includes a branch campus of Gulf Medical University, Thumbay University Hospital Dubai, advanced research facilities, simulation and surgical skills centres, and a full healthcare support network comprising laboratories, pharmacies, wellness facilities, and hospitality services. The initiative strengthens Dubai’s position as an emerging international hub for academic healthcare systems, where education and clinical practice function side by side.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group, said that Thumbay Medicity Dubai represents the next chapter of a long-term vision.
“Thumbay Medicity Dubai is more than an expansion. It is the next chapter of a dream that began with one clear belief — education, healthcare, and research must grow together. We are closely aligned with the vision of Dubai, and the city now gains an integrated academic medical city built to shape future professionals, elevate patient care, and fuel new discoveries. Our vision has always been global, but deeply human,” he said.
The education zone of Thumbay Medicity will host Gulf Medical University’s Dubai campus, featuring the Thumbay College of Management of AI in Healthcare, advanced simulation laboratories, surgical skills centres, international foundation programmes, AI-driven learning environments, and specialised academic colleges.
Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, said the new campus enhances global exposure for students.
“This campus gives students access to a second fully equipped academic location in one of the world’s most dynamic cities. It reflects our commitment to contemporary education, global exposure, and building the next generation of healthcare leaders,” he said.
The healthcare zone will be anchored by Thumbay University Hospital Dubai, which will be launched in Phase One with services including renal dialysis, cardiology, orthopaedics, and rehabilitation. The hospital is planned to expand into a comprehensive multi-specialty academic medical centre in subsequent phases.
Mr. Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Vice President – Healthcare Division, Thumbay Group, said the project strengthens the Group’s healthcare footprint in Dubai.
“Dubai becomes a major hub for our healthcare system. With hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, and medical tourism programmes integrated into one destination, our focus remains clear — accessible, compassionate care backed by academic excellence,” he said.
Strategically located on the Dubai–Sharjah border in Al Qusais, Thumbay Medicity offers direct access to major population centres, international travel connectivity, and a rapidly growing student and healthcare ecosystem. With this launch, Thumbay Group further consolidates its position as one of the region’s most comprehensive academic healthcare networks, focusing on environments where learning, research, and patient care evolve together.
