Karwar: With BRICS summit to be held at Panjim in Gao, from October 15 to 17, security has been beefed up in Uttara Kannada district also.
As there is possibility of Tibetans staging protest against China, entry of Tibetans from Mundgod to Karwar and Goa has been prohibited for next five days. Representatives of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Summit.
“All vehicles are being checked at Majali and Anmod check-posts near Goa border. More than 20 temporary check-posts have been set up in the district. Interceptor boats of Coast Guard are also on intensive patrolling,” said Karwar Additional Superintendent of Police K G Devaraju.
