Tipper driver killed, seven injured in four-vehicle crash near Joida in Uttara Kannada

Karwar: A tipper driver was killed on the spot and seven others were injured, some of them seriously, in a multi-vehicle collision near Jagalbet in Joida taluk of Uttara Kannada district on Wednesday.

The accident occurred at a curve near the Krishna Temple on the Karwar–Ramnagar road when a tipper truck reportedly went out of control and rammed into a Nissan car, a Bolero vehicle and a motorcycle, triggering a chain collision involving four vehicles.

The deceased has been identified as Babu, a resident of Kumta, who was driving the tipper truck. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Seven people sustained injuries in the crash, with the condition of some reported to be critical. The injured were initially shifted to Ramnagar Hospital and later referred to KMC Hospital in Hubballi and a hospital in Belagavi for advanced treatment.

The accident caused disruption to traffic on the busy stretch for some time before authorities cleared the road and restored vehicular movement.

Personnel from the Ramnagar Police Station rushed to the spot, conducted an inspection and initiated further investigation. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
