Karwar: Suicide is not the solution for problems, especially for police officials who are under tremendous pressure and job stress. Every working person is bound to have difference of opinion at workplace. But that should not lead him/her to end life, Karnataka State Human Rights Commission chairperson Meera Saxena noted.

Responding to a query by journalists on increase in suicide among police officials in State, she said there are hundreds of ways to resolve issues, adding officers have also to think of family members.

She said police officials face the wrath and pressure from higher officials, government and public, in general, when they fail to perform their duty. Such police officials should be subjected to repeated counselling to bring them out of depression, she observed.

She supported the call for uniform in schools and colleges. “There is nothing wrong in having uniform in colleges and schools. It represents equality and discipline. Uniforms help removing inferiority complex among students of their financial condition. Both rich and poor students will be treated same,” she said.

She, however, said at a personal level she opposes call of religion that ask for people to wear one kind of dress or those imposing dress code on women.
