Two drown in a river in Shiroor near Bhatkal

Bhatkal: Two youth lost their lives after they drowned into a river in Shiruru village near Bhatkal, when a group of seven friends had been for a picnic today on Sunday at around 5 PM. Both the bodies were recovered at around 6 PM.

The deceased has been identifed as Raju Satish Naik (35) and Zameer Imam Shaikh (22), both residents of Kargadde in Bhatkal. It is said that both were neighbours.

It is also gathered that Raju was originally from Bengaluru and had married in Bhatkal, where he then onwards settled in Bhatkal with his family. He is survived by a son and a daughter. 

The incident happened when a group of seven friends were enjoying the water in the river on the occasion of their weekend party. Raju initially went drowning and was observed by Zameer, who immediately rushed to rescue him. Sadly, both were drowned and resulted in their death.

As the news spread, hundreds of youth from Bhatkal rushed to the spot, Shiroor youth also reached to the spot and recovered both the bodies even after heavy rain. 

Byndoor police personnel also rushed to the spot and sent both the bodies to Byndoor govt hospital for post-mortem. 

A case has been registered in Byndoor police station.
