Udupi: Five Nepali citizens were arrested by the Udupi police on 19th September, Tuesday on charges of theft at a jewellery store in Shiroor earlier this year.
The accused have been identified as Kumar Singh Saud, Shivasingh Bahadur, Ramesh Singh Parki, Prem Bahadur Saud and Hark Bahadur Saud. All five are native of Silgadhi Doti district of Nepal.
They worked in fast food outlets and did other jobs.
According to the sources, they stole gold and silver from Gold Palace jewellery store in Shiroor on 2nd April this year. It was learnt that during that time, they were working in the area where Gold Palace is located, and chalked out the plan to commit the theft.
Based upon reliable intel, the police raided them and have recovered 3 kg of stolen silver anklets valued at Rs. 1.8 lakh from them. The accused and the seized items were later handed over to the Byndoor police.
The arrest operation was led by DCIB ASI Rosario D'Souza and Ravichandra, along with other police personnel under the guidance of Udupi SP Dr Sanjeev Patil.
