Udupi: In a horrific road accident which took place on Karkala State Highway, the mother and son lost their lives when the Tata Nano car on which they were travelling collided with a lorry coming from opposite direction. The deceased duos were the wife and son of Walter D’Souza, the owner of Gloria Oil Mills, identified as Shallot D’Souza (45) and Venice D’Souza (21).

According to the sources, the accident took place at 4pm of Wednesday, October 5 near Nitte Lamina cross. It is said that the lorry was carrying a paddy cutting machine and was going to Mangalore on Karkala-Pidubadri route, whereas Nano car was coming speedily from opposite direction.

The intensity of accident could be guessed by the condition of Nano car which had gone into tatters, which resulted in the spot death of mother and son.

It is said that the family had brought the Nano four months back and they were coming back from Mangalore after getting their car serviced when they met with an accident. Both the victims were badly caught inside the car and were dislodged with the help of CCB and the local people.

The Karkala-Pidubadri Highway was blocked for more than 45 minutes after the accident.

Regarding Venice, it is said that he was a bright student and had finished his mechanical engineering recently. Also, he had joined a firm in Gujarath before two and half months, but had returned home as he was not satisfied with his job.

A case has been registered at Karkala rural police station.
