Udupi:  Three fishermen from Gangolli and Baindoor drowned in separate boat tragedies in the past three days.

According to police, Devendra Kharvi (35) of Mallyarabettu, Gangolli, had ventured into fishing in his boat on September 16 at around 6.30 pm. But when he failed to return home, his family informed local fishermen and Gangolli police. The fisherman’s body was fished out from the sea by Fire and Police personnel on Saturday. Police, after tracing Kharvi’s boat near the estuary, suspected that Devendra drowned after falling off from his boat.

In another incident, a fishing boat with eight fishermen capsized around 150 metres off the coast in Tharapathi near Uppunda in Baindoor police station limits on Friday. Six of them swam to safety, but two, who could not swim, drowned in the sea. Charan (27) and Annappa (27) were both fished out near Tharapathi on Saturday, sources said.
