Udupi:  A woman Congress leader, serving as the general secretary of Kaup block youth Congress, was stabbed by a neighbour over a trivial issue on Friday evening.

The 35-year-old Congress leader, Reena Vinutha D’Souza, was immediately rushed to the hospital and is said to be out of danger by the doctors on duty. The police have detained the suspect, Vinay (36).

Eyewitness said Vinay was in an inebriated state when he stabbed Vinutha without any provocation. Vinay had accosted Reena, when she was walking near Vincent’s (another neighbour) house in Hejamady. He stabbed Vinutha and had threatened neighbours Eliza and Monita who came to her rescue. Police sources said the accused was reportedly jealous about the victim’s rise in politics. A case was registered under different Sections of the IPC in Padubidri police station.
