Mangaluru: Ullal police on Sunday night have seized six lorries that were transporting sand illegally to Kasargod from Mangaluru.

The drivers of the lorries have fled the spot.

Acting on a tip-off that four lorries and two tippers, laden with sand extracted from the banks of River Nethravathi at Kannur on the outskirts of Mangaluru, were transporting sand illegally, the police conducted a raid.

The seized lorries were handed over to the officials from Mines and Geology Department for further action.
