Sirsi: During a KDP meeting held on Wednesday, District In-charge Minister Mankal Vaidya announced the government's proactive steps to provide permanent housing to those affected by annual floods in Uttara Kannada. The decision aims to prevent the need for care centers and ensure a sustainable solution for the affected population.
In the meeting with officials from various departments of Sirsi and Siddapur taluks, Vaidya highlighted the challenges faced by people forced to leave their homes due to flooding during the monsoon season. To address this issue, the government plans to allocate suitable revenue land or GPS-surveyed land, provided by the forest department, for affected individuals to construct houses. If government land is unavailable, the necessary steps will be taken to purchase land and offer it to those in need.
During the meeting, Vaidya also expressed concerns about the poor condition of the Sirsi-Kumta road and the challenging driving conditions on Sirsi-Haveri Road. He criticized the negligence of the authorities responsible for maintaining these roads and urged the public works department to conduct surveys to identify areas vulnerable to landslides, rockslides, and tree uprooting. Appropriate measures should then be taken to prevent any future complaints from the public.
The meeting was attended by MLA Bhimanna Naik, Assistant Commissioner Devraj R, and other officials.
