Sirsi: Varada flowing in full force

Sirsi: Though the rain took smaller breaks in Sirsi taluk on Thursday, cloudy and cold weather continued to affect people.  From Wednesday morning to Thursday morning, Sirsi taluk received 35 mm rain, Siddapur 53 mm, Yellapur 14 mm and Mundgod 4.4 mm.

At Huladevanasara, land caved in and a canal breached damaging arecanut plantations and paddy fields. At the Jain Mutt in Sonda, an arch collapsed causing loss of Rs 50,000. At Bengoan in Devanalli gram panchayat in Sirsi taluk, a pipe connecting a stream damaged and road leading towards the village caved in. Due to the incessant rain for the last few days, arecanut plantations in Matthighatta area have been hit by rot disease. There was a landslide at Survey No: 154 affecting the areca plantation.

The Varada river is also flowing with full force in Banavasi and is slowly washing away the paddy fields along its course.

Till now, Sirsi taluk has received 2238 mm rain.
