Bhatkal: The water adventure sports and water sports that used to be held on the beaches of Murdeshwar in Uttara Kannada district came to a halt on Sunday.

This is because the deputy director of the Uttara Kannada District Tourism Committee has withdrawn the tender order given to Ocean Adventures which hosts water sports here.

It can be recalled that YKR Adventures & Eco-Tourism had appealed to the Tourism Secretary to cancel the tender order given to Ocean Adventures alleging that due guidelines were not followed in the tender. And taking up the case, the Tourism Secretary ordered to withdraw the tender order. Based on that, the District Tourism Officer directed to halt the water sport activities on Murdeshwar Beach from Sunday.

Meanwhile, the stalling of the water sports at the beach upset tourists who had flocked to Murdeshwar to spend their summer vacation. Tourists could not even have a boat ride there and this left them disappointed.

Meanwhile, the six lifeguards who had saved several tourists from drowning in the sea at Murdeshwar were being paid by Ocean Adventures, and the lifeguards were out of work on Sunday as water sports here were cancelled.

This also means that those in danger in the sea will have no ray of hope in the form of lifeguards from now onwards.
