Bhatkal: A 36-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at her residence in the Mankuli area of Bhatkal on Sunday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Roopa Pundalik Pai (36). According to preliminary information, a man had reportedly been in frequent telephonic contact with her over the past two months, which is said to have led to marital discord between the couple.
The woman’s sister, Smita Manjunath Hegde of Karkala, has lodged a complaint alleging that a person identified as Ravichandra Naik was responsible for her sister’s death. She has sought a thorough investigation and appropriate action in the matter.
The body has been shifted to Manipal Hospital for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Town Police Station, and an investigation is underway under the supervision of Inspector Divakar.
Police said further action will be taken after obtaining the post-mortem report and collecting details of the phone calls.
