Youth drowns while fishing in Arabian Sea near Bhatkal

BHATKAL: A 19-year-old youth drowned in the Arabian Sea while fishing at Roshan Mohalla under the jurisdiction of Honnavar police station, about 33 km from Bhatkal.

The deceased was identified as Tanseef, son of Riyaz Hodekar.

According to sources, Tanseef had ventured into the sea along with two companions on Wednesday afternoon to fish. While fishing, he reportedly moved farther into the sea and was washed away by strong waves shortly after casting a fishing net. He went missing after being swept into the sea.

A search operation was launched soon after the incident and continued through Wednesday. His body was recovered from the sea at around 3 pm on Thursday.

On receiving information, Honnavar police reached the spot and shifted the body to Honnavar hospital. After the post-mortem examination, the body was handed over to the family.

Tanseef, the second of three brothers, was studying at an ITI college in Honnavar and also worked as a fisherman during his spare time.

Honnavar police have registered a case and are conducting further investigation.
