Karwar: An 18-year-old youth drowned in the Kaneri river near Gund in Joida taluk of Uttara Kannada district while he was swimming.

The deceased was identified as Bapugowda, a resident of Ron in Gadag district. 

He and his family had been to the riverside on occasion of Sankranti holiday. He ventured into the river but drowned as he failed to judge the depth of water. 

Joida police have registered a case.
