Bhatkal: A 33-year-old man was killed after being hit by a train near the Gulmi tunnel in Bhatkal on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Nasir Shaikh Hussain, a resident of Gulmi. According to the police, he had left his house around 2 pm after lunch and was walking on or near the railway track when he was hit by a Murdeshwar–Bengaluru-bound train (No. 16586).

The impact caused severe head injuries, leading to his death. Railway Police said the incident occurred at around 3.24 pm.

The body was shifted to the Bhatkal Government Hospital for post-mortem examination and will be handed over to the family later.

A case has been registered at the Bhatkal Town Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
