Bhatkal: Huge queues outside the banks have become the saga of the entire nation from a past few days and Bhatkal is no exception. The people head to banks with the first light of the day to exchange their old currency notes for the new one and get the change. But the queues outside the banks do not count to a hundred people, but a five hundred to thousand people at the gates of each bank.

The manager of SBI has to say that the people do not need to flock the bank as they can exchange their old notes with ease in coming days. The people need not make any haste as they have a long time to carry out the process. But the public are of the opinion that it was impossible for them to get their basic daily needs from market when they neither have the currency notes of a hundred rupees nor any new currency note. The auto rickshaws and the bus drivers are not ready to board the public without loose change; also the people at the hotels return empty stomach for the lack of change to get even a cup of tea.

In a recent report, a family from Bhatkal which had gone to the neighboring state Kerala for medical treatment had to suffer greatly due to the order of demonetization. It was told that the family had reached Calicut for the medical treatment when the announcement of demonetization of high currency notes was done and this led to the immediate grief for the family. The family had no money to pay for the auto-rickshaw to go to the hotel from the hospital nor did they have money to pay for stay at the hotel. Also, they had no change to buy food in the hotel.

For the grief of people, the false rumors being spread on the social media is increasing the tension of the situation. One of the fake posts which is being circulated on the WhatsApp read that the wedding card with a seal from the police officer will fetch up to five lakhs rupees from the bank. Answering the question about the issue, a bank manager has said that no such guideline was issued from State Bank of India and the rumor was baseless. He has requested the public to distance themselves from such rumors and stop spreading them.
