Bhatkal: The Manki police successfully dismantled an inter-district bike theft racket, recovering a total of 15 stolen bikes and apprehending four persons.
During a press briefing on Thursday, officials revealed that their operation began with the arrest of two suspects, Jailani, son of Basha Saab (23), a resident of Kalghatgi, and Ravi Chandra, son of Shivappa Talwaar (27), hailing from Kundgol, Dharwad. The arrests occurred as both were attempted to evade police scrutiny while their vehicles were being inspected in Manki. Police swiftly acted and apprehended them while they were trying to flee on a black motorcycle. Subsequent questioning revealed that the motorcycle had been stolen from Udupi.

According to police, they initiated a comprehensive operation to dismantle the entire bike theft syndicate, forming various teams to investigate the matter. This coordinated effort led to the arrest of two more culprits, identified as Salman Imam Saab (24) and Jagdish Koteppa (20), both residents of Kundgol taluk in Dharwad. In the course of the operation, officials successfully recovered 15 stolen bikes, with an estimated combined value of Rs. 8,35,000.
The stolen bikes included one from each of the Murdeshwar, Manki, and Ankola police station jurisdictions.
This operation was carried out under the supervision of Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, Additional Superintendent of Police CT Jayakumar, and Bhatkal DySP K. Shrikanth. The investigative teams comprised personnel from Bhatkal rural police station, Manki, and Murdeshwar police, including CPI Chandan Gopal, Bharat Kumar, Mushaahid Ahmed, Shiv Kumar R, Kiran Kumar Reddy, Rudraiyya, Lokesh Katti, Muralidhar Naik, Vijay Naik, Mohammad Shafi (Yellapur police station), Raju Gowda, Bisun Gowda Biradar, and various other dedicated officials who contributed to unveiling this extensive theft racket.
