Bhatkal: A mother of two in Kaikini Sabpatti Cross was brutally murdered on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred around 8pm and falls under the jurisdiction of Murdeshwar police station in Bhatkal taluk. Police have taken her husband into custody in connection with the murder.
The deceased woman was identified as Nandini Lokesh Naik (30). According to sources, she hailed from Mangalore and had been married to Lokesh Naik of Murdeshwar for about 12 years. They had been residing in Murdeshwar Nadavarkeri since their marriage.
However, for the past three days, the couple and their two children had been living in a house at Sabpatti Cross in Murdeshwar. Reportedly, due to a family dispute, the husband slit his wife's neck and fled.
Upon discovering the woman's lifeless body covered in blood outside the house, neighbors promptly informed the police. Murdeshwar Police Inspector Santosh Kaikani, PSI Manjunath, and other police officials quickly arrived at the scene. Subsequently, the police located the husband who had fled to a hotel.
News of the incident drew hundreds of villagers to the spot, where the grieving children and other family members were seen in tears.
Upon receiving the news, Uttara Kannada district SP Vishnu Vardhan from Karwar and Bhatkal sub-division DySP Shrikant arrived at the scene to assess the situation and take necessary action.
A case has been registered at Murdeshwar police station, and investigations are ongoing.
