A 51year-old man allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide in Hadvalli village in Bhatkal here, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Mahaveer Alooru.

Kumari Sandra Tivan Pinto, a student of the Anjuman Degree College and PG center, Bhatkal has been selected to represent the Karnataka University in its Women Volleyball team.

The state government has decided to provide sites for Kannadigas who were recently evicted from Baina beach by the Goa authorities.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who chaired a meeting at his official residence Krishna in Bengaluru on Tuesday, said the government was committed to rehabilitating the families and that sites would be provided in the first phase.

A sessions court here today granted bail to Sameer Kulkarni, arrested for his alleged involvement in the September 2008 Malegaon blast case.
The court granted Kulkarni bail on a bond of Rs 50,000 on the grounds of parity, as several other accused in the case including Lt Col Prasad Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and retired Army Major Ramesh Upadhyay, have already been given bail.

Two Garud Commandos of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and as many Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were today killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district, an army official said.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Hajin area of Bandipora district early today following information about presence of militants in the area, he said.
