Bhatkal: A husband and wife sustained severe injuries in a road accident on Bhatkal Ranginkatte National Highway 66 after their scooty skidded on the road. The accident occurred late on Thursday night, around 9:45 pm. The individuals involved have been identified as Mohammed Rafiq (65) and his wife Fairoza Rafiq (57), who reside on Jamia Abad Road, near Masjid Abu Bakr in Bhatkal.

According to preliminary information, the couple was returning home on an Activa scooter after completing essential purchases from Bhatkal Bazar when their scooter lost balance on the Rangeenkatte NH 66, causing them to fall. Some witnesses suggest that an unidentified vehicle may have lightly grazed their scooter, leading to the loss of balance. However, others claim that the accident was a result of the rainy conditions during the night, causing their scooter to skid on the road.

Immediately after the accident, a crowd gathered at the scene, and some Good Samaritans transported the injured couple to a nearby private hospital for initial medical attention. Subsequently, both were transferred to a private hospital in Udupi due to the seriousness of their injuries.

As of the latest update, Mohammed Rafiq's condition has slightly improved, but his wife's condition remains critical. The family has requested prayers for the swift recovery of both individuals.

Additionally, it has been reported that Mohammad Rafiq, who resides in Dubai, had recently returned to Bhatkal for his daughter's wedding, which took place approximately 20 days ago.
