Karwar: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner (DC) K. Lakshmi Priya has directed principals and lecturers of all colleges in the district to take special care in guiding second-year PU students appearing for the upcoming examinations. She emphasized that every student should be motivated to pass successfully.
She was speaking at a meeting of college principals held at the DC office on Monday, discussing measures to improve the district’s PU examination results.
Lakshmi Priya stated that the second-year PU stage is a crucial turning point in students' lives, shaping their future. She stressed the importance of proper guidance and motivation, urging faculty members to focus on students' academic progress, particularly those with poor attendance and weak performance. Special classes should be organized to ensure that all students pass rather than aiming solely for ranks in results.
She also instructed faculty to help students manage exam pressure, maintain time discipline in exam halls, and take care of their health. No student should miss the examination due to any reason, she added.

Students who scored low in preparatory exams should be given special attention through additional classes. Faculty members must ensure continuous motivation to maintain students' confidence throughout the examination period.
She also directed officials to conduct safety audits in all colleges, ensuring a secure environment for students. Mock drills should be organized in collaboration with the district disaster management authority, and infrastructure for online training sessions for CET and NEET must be facilitated in colleges lacking proper resources.
Zilla Panchayat CEO Ishwar Kandoo stated that details of students with low attendance would be collected, and Panchayat officials would visit their homes to ensure their return to college.
Pre-University Education Department Deputy Director Satish Naik mentioned that efforts are being made to improve PU results this year by identifying and mentoring students with poor attendance. Each lecturer will be assigned five students to closely monitor their progress, and multiple assessments, including unit tests, mid-term exams, and preparatory exams, will be conducted to track improvements. Principals and lecturers' committees have been formed at the taluk level for supervision. Faculty members will undergo two refresher workshops, and the syllabus will be completed by December-end, with additional coaching using model question papers available on the department’s website.
The meeting was attended by principals from all pre-university colleges in the district.
