Mysuru: A tragic incident unfolded in Vishweshwaraiah Nagar, Mysuru, where a 45-year-old businessman allegedly poisoned his wife, son, and mother before hanging himself. Police suspect financial distress as the reason behind the extreme step.
The deceased have been identified as Chethan (45), his wife Rupali (43), their son Kushal (15), and Chethan’s mother Priyamvada (62). Their bodies were discovered in their apartment on Monday morning.
According to the police, Chethan's body was found hanging, while his wife, son, and mother were found dead after allegedly consuming poison. Officials believe that Chethan first poisoned his family members before taking his own life.
Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar, DCP S. Jahnavi, and other senior officers visited the crime scene. A death note was recovered, indicating financial difficulties as a possible motive.
Reports suggest that before committing suicide, Chethan called his brother Bharat, who lives in the US, around 4:00 AM on Monday and informed him about the decision. Alarmed, Bharat immediately contacted Chethan’s in-laws and asked them to rush to his apartment. However, by the time they arrived, the entire family had already died.
Police investigations revealed that Chethan, a mechanical engineer, had previously worked in Dubai and returned to India in 2019. He had purchased an apartment in Mysuru and was engaged in sending workers to Saudi Arabia. His son, Kushan, was a Class 10 student.
On Sunday evening, the family had reportedly visited a temple in Gorur, Hassan, before returning home.
The Vidyaranyapuram police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.
