Gokarna: Konkan Railway Stations managing director Sanjay Gupta along with other officials inspected the place to upgrade Gokarna junction railway station at Madangeri on Thursday.

Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu had promised to develop the Gokarna station as a heritage railway station in phased manner. The upgraded railway station would have garden, well laid floors, stone benches, and overall beautified premises in the first phase. In the second phase over-bridge, air conditioned rooms and night rest rooms for passengers would be developed. The minister had promised to look into the possibility of allowing the haltage for super-fast trains in the station.

He had spoken about employment generation in the station area with the support of State government and also permitting the private participation in improving the station area.
