Karwar: Karnataka State Human Rights Commission chairperson Meera Saxena said restricting women from wearing the dresses of their choice is a bad practice.
She told reporters here on Thursday that it’s up to the woman to decide what she should wear. There should be some dress code in schools, colleges and offices, but it is not fair to restrict women. “Saying talaq thrice is not good. We should think about the woman and her children,” she said.
In case of human rights violation, interested can complain to the Commission (toll-free number 1800-4252-3333). “We will inquire into the complaint and act against the human right violators if the plaint proved to be correct,” she said.
“The Commission has received 2,301 complaints from Uttara Kannada district in last nine years, of which 2,013 cases were solved and 288 are pending. Most of the pending cases are related to rights over encroached forest land,” she added.
Earlier, she received complaints from public at the district administration office and in the evening.
