Kumta: With the efforts to have an Hi-tech fish market in the town, the president of coastal development authority and Kumta MLA Sharada Shetty paid visit to the fish market to have an overview of the location.
Discussing with the fisher women present, MLA Sharada Shetty said that an amount of Rs.1.25 crores has been sanctioned for the construction of well-equipped open fish market in the town.
The fisher women, who were present during the MLA's visit to fish market urged that the existing fish market doesn't have drinking water facility and no wash rooms too. For the disposal of waste water, there isn't any proper sewage or channel, which led to filthy smell in the market and many other problems which were being faced by the fisher wonen were discussed.
MLA Sharada Shetty said that the fish market will be fixed with well-headed source facilities along with an amenity so that a fish vehicle could enter the market easily. Also, the opinions and suggestions from fisher leaders will also be taken into consideration. The matter would be discussed with them before constructing a new fish market, she added.
On the occasion, ZP member Ratnakar Naik, TMC president Santosh Naik, Vice president Dakshayani Ariga, Madhusudan Shet, Khateeja Ali, fisheries officer Kiran, Yoganand Gandhi, Aneeta Mapari among many others were present.
