Sirsi:'Language and history has moulded humanity. So one has to knit their lives using language and form the future by respecting the history', said Novelist and writer Na D’Souza.

Speaking after inaugurating the two-day State-level History Convention at Totager's Kalyan Mantap in Sirsi on Saturday, he said that there is no much difference between history and language, as human story is behind both. Both the entities help humans look forward in life.

“Individual man is not permanent on this earth, however, his contribution to the world of literature will live forever,” he said.

Time is right to explore the political and social history of Banavasi. There is hardly any Kannadiga who has not pronounced the name of Banavasi. However, not many people living in the State know about its history and culture, which is a sorry state of affair. He sought historians to work towards this.

Karnataka University Ancient India History and Description Science Department’s retired lecturer Srinivas Padigar presided over the convention. “We are giving more prominence to history of other countries and states. We are making our students learn about the country, which neither the teachers nor the students have seen. The history textbooks are making students learn history like they are reading a fiction novel and get marks based on their mugging capacity. The students are not understanding their historical relevance of the incidents,” he said.

He batted for compulsory teachingof  history of the region from primary school level itself.

Assistant Commissioner K Raju Mogaveer, Kannada Sahitya Parishat District Unit President Arvind Karkikodi, Historian A Sundar and others were present.
