Mangaluru: In yet another shocking incident, an 11-year-old madrasa student was stabbed by the miscreants at Kairangala Lekkesiri under Konaje police limits on Monday November 14, despite the prohibitory orders which are in force in the limits of Ullal and Konaje police stations until November 16.

In the wake of continuous incidents of murderous assault in past three days, the city police commissionerate and the Dakshina Kannada police had decided to extend the prohibitory orders under Section 144 as a precautionary measure in the limits of Ullal and Konaje police stations. This information was given by the Mangaluru town police commissioner M Chandrashekar.

Prohibitory orders had been imposed in the district in the wake of Tipu Jayanti celebrations from November 9 to November 12. However, after the incidents of assault and subsequent protests in Ullal, the police had decided to extend the prohibitory orders in the district.

Under Mangaluru city commissionerate limits, Sec 144 would be in force from 2 pm on November 13 to 10 pm on November 16, while in rest of the district, prohibitory orders would be imposed until 6 pm on November 16, starting 6 pm on November 13.

Addressing a press meet on Sunday November 13, police commissioner Chandra Sekhar said that until November 16 no one would be allowed to hold social or political public programmes and take out rallies or processions.

Two teams of police have been formed to investigate the recent incidents of unrest in the district and the police have got the important clues regarding the miscreants involved in stabbing incidents, informed the police commissioner. The offenders will be arrested at the earliest, he said.

On November 10, Mustafa Kavoor, an accused in the murder of Prashant Poojary was killed inside Mysuru prison. After Mustafa's body was brought to his hometown for the last rites, an attack was made on RSS worker Rammohan near Kuthar by persons belonging to another community. On November 12, two persons belonging from one community were attacked in Konaje. Also, on November 11, a person belonging to one community created tensed situation in Kalladka by throwing a soda bottle at the prayer centre of another community. The police made immediate security arrangements to control the situation. And a recent incident of stabbing a madrasa student has taken place in Konaje on 14 November.

Furthermore, BJP and other pro-Hindu organizations have planned for a massive protest on November 15 near Thokkottu junction. In view of all these developments, Sec 144 has been extended up till November 16 to control the law and order situation, the police commissioner explained.

As per the order, processions and rallies by organizations or groups will be prohibited, a gathering of five or more people with an intention to create unrest will not be allowed, and no one will be allowed to carry weapons or other harmful objects. The order will not affect weddings, lines at ATMs and banks or other routine activities of the people, the police commissioner said.
