Opposition leaders slam proposed bills seeking removal of PM, CMs, and ministers held in custody for 30 days

New Delhi: Senior advocate and Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi strongly criticized three new Bills listed for introduction in the Lok Sabha, which seek to disqualify the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers, and other Ministers if they remain in custody for 30 days. Singhvi warned that such provisions could become the “most effective tool to destabilize the Opposition.”

Reacting shortly after the Bills were circulated among members of Parliament, Singhvi posted on X that no clear arrest guidelines are being followed and that opposition leaders are being disproportionately targeted. He argued that the government is attempting to bypass electoral defeats by using central agencies to arrest Opposition leaders. “Not a single ruling party Chief Minister is ever touched,” he remarked.

Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, also criticized the move, describing the Bills as a “desperate ploy” to distract the public from the growing support for Rahul Gandhi’s Vote Adhikar Yatra.

Taking to X, Gogoi wrote, “First, the CSDS-BJP IT cell controversy, and now these Bills. It is clear that the winds of political change are gathering strength in Bihar.”
