Bhatkal – The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) submitted a memorandum to the Bhatkal Assistant Commissioner, addressed to the Deputy Commissioner in Karwar, calling for action against individuals allegedly attempting to disrupt communal harmony in the region. The memorandum cited an orchestrated social media campaign aimed at discrediting Jali Pattana Panchayat President Afsha Qaziya, purportedly due to her status as a representative of a minority community.
Speaking to the media, SDPI leader Taufiq Beary asserted that members of the BJP and Sangh Parivar frequently seek excuses to disturb peace in Bhatkal, pointing to repeated instances of communal tension. Beary defended Qaziya’s actions as an exercise of her religious freedom, contending that her stance did not harm anyone’s sentiments. He further remarked, “We do not need lessons in patriotism from Sangh Parivar and RSS members who themselves refrained from hoisting the tricolor on their offices for years.”
SDPI demanded immediate action from the district administration against BJP and Sangh Parivar members accused of spreading rumors and fostering divisive narratives. The party also called for an end to the unwarranted hostility and negative propaganda targeting Panchayat President Qaziya.
It should be noted that during the Kannada Rajyotsava celebration held at the Taluk Stadium on November 1, Jali Pattana Panchayat President Afsha Qaziya declined to offer a floral tribute at the feet of ‘Kannada Mata,’ represented by the deity Bhuvaneshwari. Her decision was later condemned by members of the BJP, Sangh Parivar, and Kannada organizations, who argued it disrespected a symbol cherished by Kannadigas.
